Grand Junction Relay for Life Coming Soon!

by Shannon on April 15, 2008

Several of Adam’s friends will be participating in Grand Junction’s Relay for Life June 13-14 at Canyon View Park in Grand Junction. For those of you who have never been to a relay, it is an 18 hour event designed to bring together those who have been touched by cancer. At Relay, people gather to celebrate survivors, remember those lost to cancer, and to fight back against this disease. One of the highlights of Relay is the luminaria ceremony.  Lumianarias, each with the name of someone being honored or remembered, are placed around the track, and lit- an incredible sight.

Relay participants help raise money and awareness to support the American Cancer Society.Throughout Adam’s treatment, the American Cancer Society has worked with area hotels to provide free lodging for Adam, Jo, and Rich near the hospital and clinic.  This is just one of many services provided by ACS.  ACS is also commited to research, education, and advocacy.

Grand Junction’s Relay theme this year is song titles; Adam chose the song, "Imagine" by John Lennon for our team.  He said he thought the song carried the right message.   If you would like to purchase a luminaria (ACS recommends a donation of at least $5) to honor Adam, please contact Shannon at lsmorlan@yahoo.com.  Also, Team "Imagine" is looking for a couple more members.  If you are interested in walking with us, contact Shannon at the same address.
